The Mayor of Alicante, Sonia Castedo, today opened the Museum of Contemporary Art (MACA) in the historic center of the city as a new cultural infrastructure that contains a unique "collage of artists and trends" of the twentieth century. With the firm commitment of the Government, especially the Department of Infrastructure, the museum was built to designs by architects Sol Madridejos and Juan Carlos Sancho, who won the contest summoned. The MACA is in the historic center of Alicante and is open to the Plaza de Santa Maria, a national monument. The building stands on a plot of 1,141 m2 of total area by integrating all the House of the Insured, an example of Baroque architecture in Valencia. The MACA has substantial funds, divided mainly into three collections that cover the main currents of twentieth century art.

Twentieth Century Art Collection. The first plant of the museum consists of the entire collection acquired by Eusebio Sempere throughout his life, through purchases and exchanges with the most significant artists of the twentieth century. This space includes a prominent displays of sculptures, paintings, prints, drawings, lithographs and screen prints that complement the long list of essential artists. The plant contains a careful selection of 76 works, which are to be enjoyed. There are works by Picasso, Dalí, Bacon, Alfaro, Delaunay, J. French Collection. One of the important artists in the twentieth century, Joan French, founding member and the only woman in the group El Paso. This collection is the result of their donation to the museum in 1990.
